Hoover Dam Turns Lights Green to Honor
Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary
LAS VEGAS – Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada will celebrate 100 Years of Girl Scouting, as 1,000 girls,
volunteers and alumnae Rock the Dam on March 10. In a symbolical bridging across Hoover Dam the
crowd will honor the past as they welcome the next century of Girl Scouting. That evening, the Bureau
of Reclamation will turn the lights of the Hoover Dam green to honor Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary. The
lights will remain green March 10 – 17, and the Girl Scout logo will be added on March 12 to
commemorate the actual birthday of the organization, March 12, 1912.
This historic event pays homage to Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada’s beginnings in Boulder City with 22
girls in 1932.
