NALC Food Drive 2011

One in 6 people in southern Nevada are food insecure. Approximately half of the children in the Clark County School District receive a free or reduced-price meal at school each day. That's over 300,000 people who struggle with hunger in southern Nevada. Want to help the problem? Become a part of the solution. Join the National Association of Letter Carriers with the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and help provide food to more than 20 pantries that provide food to those in need.

Stamp Out Hunger is the nation's largest single-day food drive and is conducted on the second Saturday of May. This year the drive is on the 14th. The Monday before the drive, members of the NALC deliver bags to residents on their daily routine. On Saturday, residents can set the bag of nonperishable items collected and the postal carrier will pick it up and deliver it to the food pantry assigned to their Postal Station. The NALC branch in southern Nevada has decided to take the drive one step further to increase donations.

The NALC has partnered with 34 Albertson's grocery stores in the valley to allow more people a chance to get involved. The week of May 9th - 14th, patrons will have the opportunity to visit their local Albertson's and purchase food items or a bag of food to be donated to a local pantry. Patrons will also have the option of purchasing a large stamp replica when they check out. Stamps will be hung around the store in the patron's honor and all proceeds from the donation go directly into the purchasing of food.
That's of total of six days, three options and one great opportunity to donate and make an impact. Mark your calendars now and get ready to Stamp Out Hunger in southern Nevada!
If you're unable to donate or want to do something in addition to donating click HEREfor details and to sign up to volunteer at an Alberton's location to help collect food donations.
