National MS. Society

Bike MS is a fantastic, fun-filled weekend, but the main purpose of the event is to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis. The money that is raised will funds research for better treatments and a cure, and also allows us to offer countless, vital programs and services for the 19,000 Southern Californians and Nevadans living with MS.

Volunteers 16 and up are needed in the following areas. The event takes place November 12th and 13th. Contact Yvonne Overton at Yvonne.Overton@nmss.org for more information.

Set up/Clean up - This volunteer team will work with staff to create our Start/Finish site. The volunteers will assist with set up and placement of tents, tables and chairs as well as creating the start/finish line. Volunteers will assist with setting up various stations including registration, food, and hydration areas. Volunteers should be capable of lifting heavy objects, such as tables or chairs. At the end of the day this team will also facilitate the final clean up of the site.

Volunteer Check In - Volunteers in this area will be checking in other volunteers. When volunteers check in, they will receive their t-shirt and be directed to their designated job location.

Jersey Redemption/Pick-Up - This volunteer team will distribute jerseys to riders that qualified to pick-up their jerseys on the day of the event. Riders must submit their jersey redemption tickets in order to collect their jersey. Once a jersey has been issued by the volunteer, the volunteer keeps the ticket and files it in the designated folder.

Information/Help Desk - Volunteers will be stationed at an information table. They will be trained on all the details of the event to answer any questions participants might have. They will also have route maps and local city information to answer any questions participants or guests may have. They will look for staff to help if they cannot answer a particular question.

Food Service: Volunteers will work closely with our catering vendor and staff to serve food at the end of Saturday and breakfast Saturday/Sunday morning. Some food prep may be required. *Volunteers should be able to stand on feet for an extended period of time.*

Spirit Team - This team has an important role at our start/finish line. We need fun, outgoing people to cheer on the riders as they finish for the day. These volunteers will also hand out medals to the finishers. Ideal group for this is youth groups, cheerleaders, sports teams, etc.

Bike Parking - This area works just like a coat check, participants will be handing over their bikes to volunteers who will then issue a claim check. Volunteers will then rack the bikes according to rider number. In the morning volunteers will return bikes to participants, when the participant turns in his/her claim check.

Hydration Station - This is an area where volunteers will be handing out water and sports drink to the participants at the Cleveland Clinic Ruvo Center site. Volunteers will be responsible for mixing drink mix and alerting key staff if they are running low on supplies. They are also responsible for set up and clean up.
